Our Geriatric Nursing Assistant program is designed for individuals interested in developing the skills needed to support the care of older adults. This hands-on training course will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide various basic care services to clients in their homes.
You will receive training in how to assist with activities such as:
- bathing, dressing, and grooming;
- how to assist clients with mobility-related tasks such as walking safely around the home;
- how to manage common complications associated with aging, such as incontinence and constipation;
- how to evaluate clients’ nutritional status;
- how to plan meals that meet client’s dietary needs;
- and how to monitor clients’ blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration rate, and temperature.
In addition, students will learn about health promotion strategies to help clients maintain their independence for as long as possible. Upon completion of this course, students will have gained valuable hands-on experience working directly with older adults so that they may begin their careers as geriatric nursing assistants at an assisted living facility. After returning home, graduates will be ready for employment or further education/training opportunities at their local community college or university.
